Boomer Esiason: High on the Air

Boomer Esiason on getting high in the Monday Night Football radio booth: "it was one of the best broadcasts I’ve ever had."

Former NFL quarterback and current radio host Boomer Esiason got stoned in the booth one night in 2000 when he was calling a Monday Night Football game. "I did get high," he now says about the second-hand smoke incident.

The former Jet and Bengal signal caller related the story during show, Boomer and Carton in the Morning, on WFAN in New York last Friday.

It was a rainy night, with two losing teams, the Chiefs and the Patriots, playing at Foxboro late in the season. "There's this grim reaper outside of our booth, and he's got a hoodie on and he's got a big ol' puffy jacket on, and he's smoking weed," Esiason recalled. "The radio booth is like a lean-to in the middle of the stands. And he's blowing it into the lean-to."

Referring to his colleagues in the booth, Esiason continued: "We're three minutes into the game and Matt Millen's already looking for something to eat. Howard David is trying to keep us focused on the game, and Matt and I are talking about everything but the game. I was laughing my ass off for the entire first half!"

Esiason, who won the NFL's MVP award in 1998, finished the story with a flourish: "I have to tell you that it was one of the best broadcasts I've ever had."

In the clip below, provided by bobsblitz.com, Esiason talks about the guy "blowing the ganj at me and Matt Millen," before they play audio form the night in 2000.
