In 2014, eight NFL players were arrested for marijuana possession. The first of 2015 is Tampa Bay defensive lineman Akeem Spence, who was busted for pot in Alabama on Jan. 13.

Police pulled Spence over for speeding (100 mph) in Flomaton, which is just over the Florida border near Century. The smell of marijuana led to a K-9 search which produced a small quantity of weed. He was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana second degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance and taken to the Escambia County Jail in Brewton, where he paid the $3,000 bail and was released.

Update: On Aug. 17, Spence received a one-game suspension from the NFL.

Spence was picked by the Bucs out of the University of Illinois in the 2013 draft. The 307-pound rookie tackle played 14 games in 2014, recording one sack.
