Pot Charges Dismissed Against Ravens Receiver

Baltimore's back-up wide receiver Deonte Thompson was busted in Gainesville on Feb. 21. Police charged him with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Thompson was riding in a Chevrolet SUV with two others when the car was pulled over at 11:45 pm for not having the headlights on. The cops smelled pot and a subsequent search produced 29 grams in multiple Baggies inside Thompson's duffle bag. He claimed only the duffle was his; driver Alvon Summerall and passenger Erskine McKinley said the weed was theirs. All three were arrested and taken to Alachua Country Jail. Thompson has since bailed out on a $7,000 bond.

Update: On Apr. 11, the charges against Thompon were dismissed due to "insufficient evidence."

McKinley has a long rap sheet that includes convictions for attempted murder. He's spent three years in Florida jails on multiple charges.

After Thompson played at the University of Florida from 2009-2012, the Ravens signed him as a free agent in 2012. He has caught a total of 15 passes during his two seasons in the NFL.

Thompson is the second NFL player to be arrested for marijuana this year. Tampa Bay lineman Akeem Spence is the other. Eight NFL players were busted for drugs in 2013.
