Four-time Olympian Michael Phelps won six more medals - five of them gold - at in Rio this week, upping his totals to 23 gold and 28 medals overall. Phelps says this is his last Olympics.
The champion swimmer took gold in the following events: men's 4x100m freestyle relay on July 31; men's 200m butterfly and men's 4x200m freestyle on Aug. 9; men's 200m individual medley on Aug. 11; and men's 4x100m medley relay on Aug. 13. He tied for second place in men's 100m butterfly on Aug. 12.
Phelps won six gold medals (eight total medals) in Athens in 2014, eight (out of eight races) in Beijing in 2008 and four more (six total medals) in London in 2012.
The champion swimmer was outed in 2009 when a photo of him hitting a bong at a college party in Columbia, SC appeared in several tabloids and spread like a wildfire on the web. Check out the photo here.
Phelps has been arrested twice on DUI charges, first in 2004 and again in 2014. Both times he was placed on 18-month probation and fined. After the recent arrest, Phelps went into a treatment program as well as AA, and was suspended by USA Swimming for six months. But with consistent workouts, he was able to get himself back into Olympic shape.
Phelps and his fiancé, former Miss USA contestant Nicole Johnson, have a son, Boomer.
