The Prince of Pot: NBA Veteran Nabbed in Miami on Texas Weed Warrant

Taurean Prince’s Texas mug shot and in his Minnesota Timberwolves uniform

For the second time in several months, an NBA player has been arrested for marijuana in the Lone Star State. On May 19, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Taurean Prince was busted in Arlington, Texas and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon after a traffic stop for an expired registration. Police said Prince had a vape pen, a jar containing cannabis flower and two guns in the vehicle. It took several months for the authorities to deterimine that there was THC in the cartridge (CBD is legal in Texas).

Skip forward more than three months to August 26. Prince was about to board a plane at Miami International Airport when "his name came up showing that there was a warrant and they took him into custody,” according to his attorney Kent Schaffer. "The only reason we knew was because he was going out of the country for vacation." He added that the pen tested for “1/100th of an ounce of THC, which is probably the smallest amount you can have.”
