Here we go again. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has stripped long jumper Tara Davis-Woodhall of her recent national indoor title because of a positive test for marijuana. Her one-month suspension began on Mar. 21. The 2023 USATF Indoor Championships took place on Feb. 17, the same day of the test.
Rather than the mandatory three-month suspension, Davis-Woodhall's was reduced to one because her use was determined to have "occurred out-of-competition and was unrelated to sport performance."
WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) continues to ban cannabis while other leagues like the NBA don't.
According to a press release: "USADA has advocated and will continue to advocate to WADA, the rule maker, to treat marijuana in a fairer and more effective way to identify true in-competition use."
The release states:
"Davis-Woodhall, 23, tested positive for 11-nor-9-carboxy-tetrahydrocannabinol (Carboxy-THC), a urinary metabolite of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive constituent of cannabis, marijuana, and hashish, above the urinary Decision Limit of 180 ng/mL."
Born in Agoura Hills, CA in 1999, Davis-Woodhall competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics where she finished sixth in the long-jump competition.
The 2020 Olympics were marred by a similar suspension to sprinter Sha'Carri Ruchardson, who was banned from performing at the Summer Games due to a failed THC test.
