14. Rolling Papers
The only significant pot-themed documentary of 2016 focuses on the first year of The Cannabist, the Denver Post's weed website, which debuted when Colorado started to sell legal marijuana for adult use in 2014. It's a newsroom movie and the main character is Ricardo Baca, the understated editor of cannabist.co (Baca stepped down from his position on Dec. 29). We see the paper's former music editor at his desk and at meetings, supervising coverage. Rolling Papers is less about the Denver Post's expansion into marijuana and more about what it takes to survive in the newspaper business these days. For a hot topic, it's pretty dull.
