9. Good Fortune
Asiz Ansari's claim to fame was his Netflix TV series Master of None until he got caught up in a #MeToo scandal in 2018. For his first film, he combines two standard themes: angels and trading places. Gabriel (a typically flat Keanu Reeves) hovers from a rooftop with other angels plotting their next moves; his job is to prevent car accidents happening because of texting. It works for Elena (Keke Palmer), who works at the same hardware store as Ansari's Arj. This connects Gabriel to Arj, who's living in his car.
Venture capitalist Larry (Seth Rogen) hires Arj to be his assistant after he makes a second-job food delivery. Larry has Arj handle menial tasks like booking an ayahuasca session. When Gabriel decides Larry and Arj could use a swap, suddenly Arj is living it up and Larry's in the poor house, competing with "food delivery robots and AI bullshit."
Fish-out-water Gabriel enjoys his time back among the living, eating tacos like it's going out of style when his wings are temporarily disabled for behavior unbecoming of an angel (Sandra Oh as head angel Martha scolds him).
By the end, Arj and Larry reach a truce, and Arj and Elena stir up a union movement and raise awareness about homelessness and the gig economy.
