'The Matrix Resurrections' Trailer: 'It's Time to Fly'

It's all about the blue and red pills in the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth Matrix installment and first since 2003, scheduled for a December 22 theatrical release.

In the original shapeshifting 1999 film, Neo (Keanu Reeves) famously is charged by Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) with selecting the correct pill. The blue pill will bring him back to his former life. The red pill will open the door to The Matrix. He takes the latter and all hell breaks loose.

In the trailer above, Neo first swallows three blue ones. Then he's offered a red one. "It's time to fly," says an unnamed character played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who will likely be an updated Morpheus (Fishburne is not in the film).

The soundtrack for the trailer is "White Rabbit," the famous Jefferson Airplane song from 1967, based on Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass, about pills and drugs that "feed your head." It was written and sung by Grace Slick.

Neo's love interest Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and a psychiatrist portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris also appear in the trailer.
