Day-O: Belafonte Backs Bernie

Legendary singer Harry Belafonte is feelin' the Bern. In a video statement, he says Sen. Sanders…

'Represents opportunity. He represents a moral imperative. He represents a certain kind of truth that's not often evidenced in the course of politics… He offers us a chance to declare unequivocally that there is a group of citizens with a deep caring  for where out nation goes and what it does in the process of going.'

Belafonte, who turns 89 on Mar. 1, began his recording career in the '50s. He had a No. 5 hit with "The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)" in 1957. His film career includes roles in Carmen Jones and Uptown Saturday Night. In addition, Belafonte's a long-time supporter of liberal causes.
