Two Deaths in the P-Funk Family
George Clinton's son George Clinton Jr. died of natural causes on Feb. 1 in Tallahassee. Just five days later Mahlia Franklin, former lead singer of the P-Funk off-shoot Parlet, passed away after suffering a stroke.

Jack Herer's Wife Wins Guardian Suit
After many troubling months following Jack Herer's devastating heart attack last September, his wife Jeannie Herer is now his official guardian. The decision was made on Feb. 3 in an Oregon court. Regarding Herer's health, lawyer Bill McPike says, "He can sit up and tries to speak. We can only pray for Jack's full recovery."
Michael Phelps' Poker Face
When he's not in the pool or hitting the bong, Michael Phelps can be found at the poker table. On Jan. 29, he entered the Borgata's Winter Open tournament in Atlantic City. Phelps anted up the $2,000 buy-in and finished ninth. The winner took home nearly $50G.
Sarah Silverman: 'It's 420 Somewhere'
Season 3 of "The Sarah Silverman Program" kicked off last night on Comedy Central. Silverman thinks she's a dude, sort of, and Brian and Steve are spooked by a ghost. As she says in the trailer, "It's 420 somewhere, right?"
Philly NORML Concert Raises $2G
More than 300 NORML supporters braved frigid Northeast weather Friday night and packed the Rotunda, where four local bands played and NORML founder Keith Stroup exhorted the crowd to "get up, stand up, light up and legalize it." CelebStoner was there.

Rob Kampia, who co-founded the Washington, DC-based pro-pot org 15 years ago, called the night a "celebration for the whole movement."
'Fela!' on Broadway
From a pure stoner standpoint, the musical “Fela!” offers a rare opportunity for an audience to catch a buzz during a Broadway show. Early in the first act, co-star Kevin Mambo, who portrays the Nigerian musician and revolutionary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, smokes a large joint on-stage and tells the crowd, "You all look a lot more beautiful now."

Utah State Center Busted for Pot
Anthony DiLoreto is the fourth college basketball player to be arrested on marijuana charges so far in 2010. The 7-1 Utah State frosh was stopped by Logan police on Feb. 1. After they smelled pot in the car, he surrendered a small bag. DiLoreto remains in jail.
Tim Lincecum's Day in Cannabis Court
Two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Linceum agreed to pay a $513 fine for possessing marijuana and paraphernalia during a traffic stop in October. What started off as misdemeanors were reduced to a civil infratcion. The lanky fireballer said, "I'll try not to let this happen again, move forward and continue with my life."
Cager Caught Up in Sizzurp Ring
Talk about bad days: On Friday, Shawne Williams was cut by the Nets and then rounded up with 24 others by Memphis police and charged with eight counts of possession and intent to sell codeine-base syrup as part of Operation Lockup. The troubled 6-9 forward's rap sheet includes a 2007 pot arrest.
Tyler Smith Speaks
The disgraced former captain of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team now says, "I made a bad decision and I'm sorry." Tyler Smith and three other players partied after defeating Memphis on New Year's Day and were arrested the next morning for gun and pot possession.
OSU's Moses Busted for Marijuana
Oklahoma police nabbed OSU starting forward Marshall Moses for pot, paraphernalia and a suspended license in Stillwater on Jan. 4. He was suspended for one game. Moses return on Jan. 9 vs. Texas Tech.

Sarah Silverman in 'Saint John of Las Vegas'
In her first movie role in four years, Sarah Silverman co-stars with Steve Buscemi in Hue Rhodes' "Saint John of Las Vegas." John (Buscemi) is a compulsive gambler who works for an insurance company. Jill (Silverman) plays the busty receptionist he gets involved with. It's an unlikely pairing to say the least. "Saint John of Las Vegas" opened Friday.
Jeff Bridges Is 'Bad' in 'Crazy Heart'
In one of the great roles in his 40-plus year career, Jeff Bridges plays hard-drinking, down-on-his-luck country singer Bad Blake in Scott Cooper's compelling music biz/relationship drama. Maggie Gyllenhaal co-stars as Jean, a reporter who briefly falls for Bad. "Crazy Heart" is in theaters now.
'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll' Trailer
Andy Serkis stars as the late British punk-rocker Ian Dury in Mat Whitecross' biopic, which opened on Friday in London. A heavy drinker and pot smoker, Dury's famous for his late-'70s hits, "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" and "Reasons to Be Cheerful Part 3," recorded with the Blockheads. He died of liver cancer in 2000.

Marc Emery: Top CelebStoner
Newly elected Top CelebStoner Marc Emery is gearing up for the Winter Olympics, which takes place in his home town Vancouver from Feb. 12-27. "There will be pot at the medals ceremonies," he predicts. Hopefully Emery will be there to enjoy the festivities. The Prince of Pot is slated to be extradited any day to the U.S. to serve a five-year sentence for selling marijuana seeds.

Hempilation Classic: George Clinton's 'U.S. Custom Coast Guard Dope Dog'
George Clinton was kind enough to contribute crowd favorite "Dope Dog" to "Hempilation 2" in 1998. It's of course the funkiest track on the album. "Never do he do a line in the line of duty," Clinton sings. "He's a dope dog."
Redman's New Joint: 'Oh My'
The first single from Redman's upcoming album, "9 1/2," benefits from a horn-heavy '70s sample. On "Oh My," Red name-checks "Kush" and raps, "I'm tryin' to smoke with Obama." It's his first solo joint since 2007's "Red Gone Wild."
Hempilation Classic: 'Under Mi Sensi'
After Brad Nowell died in 1996, Sublime's bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gough reunited to form the short-lived Long Beach Dub Allstars. Barrington Levy provides the vocals on this cover of his ganja classic, "Under Mi Sensi," which appeared on the 1998 NORML benefit cd, "Hempilation 2: Free the Weed."
Hempilation Classic: Willie Nelson's 'Me and Paul'
The cannabis-lovin' country singer contributed a live version of "Me and Paul" to "Hempilation 2: Free the Weed" in 1998. Originally recorded as the title track of Willie Nelson's 1985 album, it's about his road escapades with drummer Paul English. "Almost busted in Laredo," Willie sings, "but for reasons that I'd rather not disclose."
Hempilation Classic: Mike Watt's 'Sidemousin' the Bong'
One of 20 tracks on "Hempilation 2: Free the Weed" (released in 1998), "Sidemousin' the Bong" features bassist Mike Watt, drummer George Hurley, singer Petra Haden and Jane's Addiction's Stephen Perkins on the bong.
